Transcription
During transcription, which takes place in the nucleus, 2 strands of DNA unzip from one another and a strand of mRNA is formed from each DNA strand.
Translation
During translation, which takes place in the cytoplasm, mRNA selects amino acids to make proteins. After they are selected tRNA carries them so they can join together and finish the process.
